Summary
Description
In 1831, the area South and West of the Red River in what is now Miller County, Arkansas was considered by many to be part of Mexico. This made the area, particularly Ben Milam's Lost Prairie, popular for hot headed youths and old-school traditionalists to fight duels. The Pope-Noland duel wasn't the first duel fought there, nor would it be the last, but this duel has a unique connection to Miller County History, especially the Texarkana Museums System Wilbur Smith Research Archives. Join TMS Curator, Jamie Simmons for a talk on this duel and the letters in the archives that shed light on its aftermath. Admission is free, but seating is limited, so reservations are recommended.
