Description

This after dark walking tour of “Gracefully Southern: Mourning Customs of the Victorian and Edwardian South” will combine entry into the first floor exhibitions at the Ace of Clubs House and P. J. Ahern Home and will look at sites in between relating to the topic.

The tour will cover in greater depth the more macabre aspects of the Victorian and Edwardian obsession with death. Learn about the art of photographing the dead; safety coffins to prevent being buried alive; body snatching; see examples of jewelry made out of the hair of the deceased and much more.

This tour will start at 7pm at the P. J. Ahern House (403 Laurel St, Texarkana AR) and end at the Ace of Clubs House (420 Pine St, Texarkana TX). The walking tour itself will be a little over a mile in length, with light refreshments provided at the Ace of Clubs House.

The cost is $15, $10 for Museum Members (phone 903-793-4831 for the members' promo code). Attendees must be 16 or older and tickets must be purchased advance through http://www.texarkanamuseum.org/shoponline/. Bring a flashlight. Raindate of Oct 28th
